Spaces that make you want to learn

A vision-led design, the compact MW Campus seeks to create an ideal learning environment to make the learning experience inclusive, natural, fun, hands-on and non-hierarchical. Designed and built in 2022 by architect-designer Ritu-Ngapnon Varuni, who is also the Founder-Director of Mountainwind; the Campus has residential facilities for men and women and a dining hall , spacious verandas for participants along with the main building  (The Morung) , which houses the workshop, library, office and forested learning spaces.

Looking at physical design through a philosophical lens implies translating the work philosophy into the design of spaces and built environment. So at Mountainwind, form follows both function and philosophy. The physical design has been envisaged as a space that does not disturb the natural environment in which it is placed, but uses it varyingly, to create different kinds of creative learning spaces. The beautiful mountainous Himalayan setting provides a wonderfully peaceful and appropriate learning environment.

Following traditional, sustainable, natural and indigenous forms of architecture based on the principle of co-existance. The space has been created carefully & ethically ; Including alot of repurposed wood, recycled & redesigned furniture.

The energy, effort & attention to detail with which a space has been crafted is truly key to setting the right intention is our belief.

“The physical environment can intentionally create the mental space for learning. So my ideal learning space is preferably mostly outdoors or in combination with an open built plan set in a quiet, natural and forested setting. It should have many nooks for individual and group learning and reflection. A flexible, fluid space that is multifunctional with a pleasing, soothing aesthetic that invites and does not intimidate the learner. The design should invite conversations and discussions with peers and educators in a more egalitarian or distributed design frame.”

The dormitory facilities are thoughtfully designed to provide a safe, comfortable, and welcoming living environment for all residents. Separate accommodation areas are provided for women and men, ensuring privacy, security, and convenience. Each dorm is furnished with comfortable beds, soft cushions, and warm blankets to create a cozy atmosphere suitable for all seasons. The interiors are planned with proper ventilation, cleanliness, and functional storage spaces to support comfortable long-term stays.

The dorms also feature a spacious backyard veranda that opens to scenic mountain views, offering residents a peaceful space for relaxation, social interaction, and recreation. The natural surroundings, combined with modern amenities and a serene environment, create a refreshing and comfortable residential experience within the campus.

Residential dorms ( your temporary home )

It is equipped with high-quality modular toilet cubicles, hygienic hand showers, sleek modular washbasins, and premium mirrors to provide a professional and efficient sanitation facility. The space is planned for easy maintenance, proper ventilation, and continuous water supply, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for students, staff, and visitors.
